SCROLL DOWN

Solar Market Parity Portugal

4 July 2019 /// Lisbon

CONNECTING LOCAL AND INTERNATIONAL PLAYERS, FOR AN ACCELERATED GROWTH OF PORTUGAL'S SOLAR DEVELOPMENT

Ideal conditions are in place: Portugal has the biggest solar radiation in Western Europe, and solar is becoming more cost-competitive. So market parity is expected, which means doors are wide open for a solar (r)evolution. Which changes, challenges and opportunities are expected in the next few years?

  • Portugal’s government targets that 80% of the power demand will be met through clean energy generation through 2030.

  • Solar auctions up to 1.35GW are expected mid-2019, followed by further auctions in 2020 and afterwards, with the final aim to increase Portugal’s solar capacity from less than 1GW up to 8-10 GW at the end of the next decade.

With the forthcoming advent of solar market parity and such aggressive targets, the future of solar in Portugal is nothing but bright.
